Lee County Booking Photo Records
A booking photograph records a person's appearance when a jail or correctional agency processes that person. Lee County places a booking image on the individual detail reached from its official Released grid. The same record can show admit and release timestamps, local ID, charges, docket data, “How Released,” and “Release Reason.” That context makes the county source more useful than an isolated image copied elsewhere.
North Carolina's Chapter 132 broadly defines public records by their content and government creation or receipt, including photographs and electronic records. Access still has exceptions. Juvenile information, protected identifying data, sealed or expunged matters, criminal-investigation material, and certain correctional records may be withheld.
Release does not erase the booking episode by itself. Nor does an arrest image establish conviction. Use the Lee County court docket and disposition to learn what happened to the charge. If the case was dismissed, resulted in a not-guilty outcome, or was later expunged, that later context is essential.

For a recent county release, start with the official Lee County Released search. Search by name, charge description, or number of days. Open the matching detail only after comparing age, sex, admit date, and charges. Names alone can collide, and one person can have multiple booking episodes.
Lee County Released Detail
The county portal separates Current from Released. A person who left the detention facility normally drops off the current roster, so switch to Released before searching. The all-released grid displays Full Name, Age, Race, Sex, Admit Date, Release Date, and time in jail. Each row can lead to a detail containing the booking image and fuller episode data.

Request a Lee County Photo
When the detail is unavailable or a stable copy is needed, request the existing booking and release record from the Lee County Sheriff's Office. The county's online forms do not clearly advertise a dedicated release-record form. Ask the office which current custodian, email, or form accepts detention-record requests before sending sensitive identifiers.

Many petitions carry a general $175 fee, while some dismissed or not-guilty matters can proceed without that general fee. File in the county of charge or conviction.

No enacted statewide “pay-to-remove” mugshot law was confirmed in the legislative review. North Carolina proposals, including House Bill 446 in 2025, must not be described as current law unless the official bill history later shows enactment. Even when a photo is legally public, restraint matters. Use only the data needed to identify the correct episode. Place dismissal, not-guilty, expunction, and release context next to the arrest image when those facts are known.
Why Lee County Context Wins
Lee County's own Released detail keeps the booking photograph beside exact release information and charges. This distinctive design lets a reader verify that the image belongs to the relevant custody episode and see how that episode ended. The official source is therefore stronger than a copied gallery that shows only a face and allegation.
Read “How Released” and “Release Reason” together. One field can describe the destination or custody handoff while the other records the administrative cause. A person transferred to NCDAC or another jurisdiction is released from the Lee jail but may still be confined. The photo does not resolve that distinction; the adjoining fields do.
Complete the record with the Lee County court system. Court disposition answers what happened to the charge, while the jail detail answers when and how county custody ended. Neither should be made to answer the other's question.
Identity review should use the local ID or booking number, age, admit date, docket, charge, and arresting agency where available. A face or shared name is not enough. Multiple bookings for the same person should be treated as separate dated episodes, each with its own image and outcome.
If a source appears wrong, preserve only the evidence needed to identify the field and request a correction from its custodian. The Sheriff controls Lee jail data, NCDAC controls the state profile, and the Clerk controls court records. Republishing the error elsewhere does not fix it.
A state offender photograph should not be mislabeled as the Lee County booking image. It may come from a different admission, facility, or year.
